BRAND HIGHLIGHT 16 - IRYUK
On the second day of Seoul Fashion Week at Dongdaemun Design Plaza, emerging Korean designers showcased their collections, including Iryuk's Lim Wu-jun, who presented a collection inspired by the theme "Between". As one of the seven rookie designers participating in the Generation Next section, Lim's collection reflected a mix of freewheeling creativity and practicality to meet the needs of clients.
The show began with a white pair of skirt-like pants paired with a navy jacket, followed by oversized silhouettes and layered looks that rocked the outdoor runway. Lim's reinterpretation of "commercial" items, such as shorts paired with jackets and vests, and denim fabric with different patterns, added another layer to the looks. A simple chain necklace was also included.
The collection was designed based on genderless sensibility, expressing the conversation between fashion and philosophy in a way that defies traditional customs and composition. Through the use of oversized silhouettes, bold cutouts, patchwork, and layering, Lim rejected the existing order while maintaining the brand's identity through the appropriate mix and match of commercial items with a take-off-only sensibility.
Iryuk is a unisex brand that promotes a neutral and genderless look, pushing the boundaries of gender and age, which was underscored by a lone female model walking the runway with 15 male models. Lim aimed to convey the freedom of designers who do not subjugate or depend on anything else and the midpoint properties that many people can consume on Realway. Overall, the collection was a unique blend of creativity and practicality that showcased Lim's vision for Iryuk.
